Family Workshop: Sumi-e Painting with Hiroko Nagatomo

Saturday, April 6, 2024: 1:00 - 3:00 PM

All Ages

Join us at BAM for a sumi painting workshop with artist Hiroko Nagatomo. Nagatomo will teach participants how to use sumi brushes and other Japanese painting materials, and demonstrate a variety of art-making techniques. Children 7 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Both English and Japanese language instruction will be available.

Artist Bio:

Hiroko Nagatomo is a sumi, watercolor, and oil painter, illustrator, and graphic designer. She has been teaching art classes for children and adults in Bellevue for seven years, and previously owned an art school in Japan for over 15 years.

This workshop has been developed alongside the Washi Transformed: New Expressions in Japanese Paper exhibition, featuring 9 contemporary artists who have pushed washi beyond its traditional uses to create highly textured two-dimensional works, expressive sculptures, and dramatic installations.

This program requires a $4 materials fee per participant in addition to regular museum admission (museum tickets to be purchased at time of arrival)
